This session will include a brief overview of the Hand in Hand Community Framework for Early Childhood Collaboration and the supporting briefs and stories, developed by the Model Convening Project. A partnership comprised of four national early childhood models, including Family Connects, HealthySteps, Help Me Grow, and Nurse-Family Partnership, with leadership and facilitation from ZERO TO THREE. One of the resources developed is a parent story that features Denise Brown, a graduate of the NFP program in Jacksonville, FL. Denise will share her experience and expertise with being a Parent Leader through her participation with many early childhood collaborative efforts. If you are among the countless communities seeking meaningful ways to include or increase parent voice in your community collaboratives, then this is the session for you.

Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to summarize the Model Convening Project and the Hand in Hand Resources
  • Participants will identify insights and strategies directly from a parent leader about ways to engage parents in early childhood systems collaboratives
  • Participants will examine their own opportunities to implement shared strategies and the potential impacts

Kimberly Bradley, MPH, MS (she/her)

ZERO TO THREE

Kimberly Bradley, MPH, MNM, serves as the Program Manager for Technical Assistance (TA) with the Programmatic Assistance for Tribal Home Visiting (PATH) Center at ZERO TO THREE. In this role, Ms. Bradley contributes to the design, provision and supervision of technical assistance to Tribal Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) grantees. Ms. Bradley’s previous experience includes providing TA to state and territory MIECHV grantees and serving as the Project Director for the Women’s Health Initiative (WHIN), a Federal Healthy Start Project awarded to the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County. Ms. Bradley holds a Master of Public Health degree from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia and a Master of Nonprofit Management degree from Florida Atlantic University.

Denise Brown (she/her)

Parent Leader

Denise Brown, Parent Leader, joined the Nurse Family Partnership Program (NFP) in 2012 when she was pregnant with her son Calvin Brown. She was very active in volunteering with the NFP program. Denise and her son graduated in 2014 from NFP. Calvin Brown is now nine, going on 10 years old. He is going to the 5th grade and doing amazingly well. Denise and the father of her son got married in 2017 and they thank NFP for providing them with family counseling to help them keep their family together. Denise went on to work with the Northeast for the Healthy Start Coalition as a lactation consultant. After leaving the coalition, she now has her own lactation service which is thriving. She is also working as a Parent Leader with Healthy Start Coalition in Tallahassee. She has just finished training to become a doula. She has no plan of stopping; she will continue growing.
