This eLearning course is a series of 12 modules, each 45-60 min. in length, providing HealthySteps Specialists with discrete knowledge, skills, and resources appropriate for use during each of the 12 well-child visits scheduled for babies: newborn through 36 months of age.
Each module includes the following segments:
Building the Relationship: tips for building a trusting, supportive relationship with caregivers
Typical Development: developmental milestones and characteristics at this age; tips for supporting development
Video Observations: two brief videos to practice observational skills
Anticipatory Guidance: topics that are particularly relevant for caregivers of children at this age
What the Caregiver Brings: circumstances that may impact parenting, including caregivers’ mental health and social determinants of health
Gathering Information: recommended screenings and observations of child and caregiver-child dyad for each visit
The modules can be taken in any order and can be retaken as desired.
Learning Objectives:
Identify developmental milestones to look for at each well-child visit.
Describe anticipatory guidance on topics appropriate for the age of the child.
Gain and apply knowledge about social determinants of health, caregiver mental health, and other health and risk factors that may affect the well-being of families the HealthySteps Specialist works with.
