This 60-minute module introduces the HealthySteps model, the research behind it, the eight Core Components, and our tiered approach to supporting families of children ages 0-3. You will learn the opportunities and vulnerabilities of the first three years of life which provides the rationale for HealthySteps’ focus on this population. We will share evidence of the effectiveness of the HealthySteps model, including positive outcomes for children, caregivers, and pediatric practices. Finally, you will learn about supports and resources available to you from the HealthySteps National Office.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the HealthySteps approach;
  2. Identify the 8 core components of the HealthySteps program and how they are delivered in a 3-tiered population based and risk stratified model of services;
  3. Give at least three reasons why HealthySteps is focused on children in the first three years of life;
  4. Describe how toxic stress and adverse childhood experiences, or ACEs [pronounced “aces”] put very young children at risk;
  5. Recognize outcomes for children, parents, and pediatric practices that result from the implementation of HealthySteps; and
  6. Identify supports and resources available to HealthySteps sites from the National Office.

The HealthySteps Overview is the same as module 1 of the course Foundations for HealthySteps Specialists.
