
AC21 - B2 - Advancing the Infant/Toddler Workforce: Where Can We Go From Here
Data show there is racial inequity within the infant/toddler workforce. In order to improve pay parity, lack of access to benefits, and working conditions for Women of Color, we must pay close attention to this inequity by identifying gaps and strategies to remove barriers in local, state, and federal early childhood education systems.

Mrs. Westermann has 18 years of experience in the field of early learning with a Masters In Early Childhood Education and a Bachelors in Children's Studies both from Eastern Washington University. She has directed programs that serve children and families that are predominantly low-income which also included wrap around services, built early learning programs from obtaining a contract to full implementation, supported a program through a successful NAEYC Accreditation process, and has conducted coaching/mentoring/training with in WA State's QRIS system. Her experience spans across a broad spectrum of early learning systems and issues, including: developing cultural awareness, coaching, training, technical assistance, poverty, policy development and research, observation and goal setting, behavior, professional development systems, QRIS system building and implementation, state early learning system development, and general early learning program development. April has also served as an adjunct ECE Profession for Spokane Falls Community College in their AA program and for Southern University of New York Canton for their ECE Bachelors program.
